iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20 fixes Touch ID Error 53

Error 53 is quite a headache for anyone who replaced their touch ID and updated their iOS to a superior version.  At first Apple was reluctant to offer a fix and claimed this is a security measure to protect customers. iOS 9.2.1 build 13D20 will allow you to use your phone, but will NOT re-enable Touch ID. Therefore if you want to use your Touch ID get your home button replaced by Apple. A third party Touch ID will not work, no matter what.

Steps to fix your iPhone bricked by error 53 :

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Force restart your device.
  3. Try to restore your device again.
  4. If you still see error 53 when you try to restore your device, contact Apple Support. If the restore won’t finish and you see a different error code, learn what to do.

Apple also created a support page, where you can find out about Error 53 and the steps you need to take to fix it.
