
What is new in iOS 10?
Apple launched iOS 10 at WWDC 2016, Monday June 13th and to be honest there are lots of new exciting features.
Availability
iOS 10 is available to registered Apple developers as of yesterday. The public beta will launch in July and the final version will reach your device (probably iPhone 7) in September, later this year.

Lock Screen
Say goodbye to Slide to unlock! Your iOS 10 device can only be unlocked if you press the home button or use Touch ID. Also no more missed notifications. With “raise your iPhone to wake” function, you can wake up your iPhone and view your on-screen notifications. No need to touch any buttons. Sliding from left to right will bring some widgets to the screen like weather info and calendar notifications. Of course you can customize what you want to see here.
Phone app
With iOS 10 you can listen to your voicemail in a new fashion, as well as read the transcript of the missed call.
Messages
The Messages app received a ton of updates which include :
- Personalized handwriting
- Customized speech bubbles with effects
- Invisible ink – hide a message or a photo, swipe to reveal it
- Stickers – available in the new App Store
- Tap to replace emoji’s
- iMesage apps – create, share content or make a payment inside the app
- Multilingual typing – Type in two languages at the same time without switching keyboards
- Messages app open for developers
Photos
The Photos app has been updates with the following features :
- Contextual search for people, things, and places
- Selection based on places
- Memories feature allows you to collects trips and experiences and offers you related photos with faces, similar places
- Suggested memories – Get suggestions based on places, people, or objects in the memory you are currently viewing
- Live photos editing – now you are able to edit your live photos
Siri
Siri has also been enhances with some interesting features :
- Third-party app integration – For example book a ride with Lyft
- SiriKit for developers – Audio or video calling, messaging, sending/receiving payments, searching photos
- App search: in-app searching, search continuation, visualization of validation results
- Contextual predictions in QuickType: contacts, recent addresses
- Website available within Maps
Maps
The Maps app has been enhanced with :
- Bottom search bar, manual zoom, overview, details, audio changes
- Multi-stop: gas, lunch, coffee
- App extensions: reservations, uber ride
- Proactive suggestions for places you usually go and calendar context
HomeKit
HomeKit comes with a dedicated app called Home and some new updates :
- Home app has bold, favorite scenes, favorite accessories, shows current info
- Integrates with Apple TV for remote access, geofence possibility
- Turn on lights, lock doors, lower window shades
Apple Music
Apple Music has been enriched with tabs, new discovery features, and a better way to Connect music fans with artists.
